Bandh today for Educational institutions in Andhra & Rayalaseema
In view of the arrests made on the Andhra & the Rayalaseema students who were participating in the 'Mahapadayatra' from Guntur to Hyderabad, the student JAC of the region called for a bandh today. However the students announced that the Intermediate exams are exempted from the bandh.
In the Mahapadayatra around 53 students from 13 universities were participating. The padayatra was flagged off from Nagarjuna university few days back. However they were arrested couple of days back when they were all set to enter into the Telangana region. The arrests were made in Bose Driving School at Munagacharla village near Nandigama, where the students made an overnight halt, and picked up 28 persons.
Student JAC convener Kishore Kumar (who too was participating in the padayatra) questioned the propriety of the police in arresting them when they were leading a peaceful padayatra in contrast to the ‘violent’ agitations being conducted in Telangana.
However the police said that they have good intensions in arresting the students. Since the students planned to travel to Hyderabad in their padayatra, they have to cross around 200 kilometers in the Telangana region to reach Hyderabad. In such context they would have faced backlash from the Telangana activists in the Telangana region, the police revealed.
