Dalai Lama to be honoured by US-based 'National Underground Railroad Freedom Center'
A US-based organisation has chosen Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama for its international award for championing the cause of freedom, sources in the Tibetan government in-exile said here today.
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, has selected the Tibetan temporal head for the award that would be conferred on him later this year, the sources said.
The 74-year-old Nobel laureate would be honoured at the Duke Energy Centre on October 20, 2010, they said quoting Freedom Center CEO and President Donald W Murphy.
"The Dalai Lama's tireless efforts on behalf of Tibet and his life-long advocacy of freedom and peace for all are in the finest traditions of those abolitionists who fought for the eradication of slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries," Murphy, the head of the non-governmental organisation, said.
