Shakamuri Appa Rao killed. Big blow to Maoist movement in Andhra Pradesh
Shakamuri Apparao the elusive Naxalite leader in Andhra Pradesh has been killed in the Prakasam district after a prolonged battle with the police.
He is wanted for several incidents like the killing of the famous police officer Veda Vyas, Alipiri mine blast etc.
He is considered to be the last major leader of the Naxalites in Andhra Pradesh. He is considered to be the right hand of the Maoist leader Ramkrishna. He originally belongs to the Warangal district and is survived by six brothers. Incidentally he carries a cash reward of 10 lakhs.
In another incident, Kondal Reddy, another senior Naxalite leader has been killed in the Warangal district. He belongs to the Medak district.
Though the Maoist and the Naxalite movement started as a struggle against the landlords, since the past many years most of the Naxalites were termed as pseudo-naxalites who are used to drinking and making merry in the jungles after extracting money from politicians, contractors, businessmen etc
